Kochi: The Kerala High Court On Wednesday served notice to cricketer Virat Kohli, actors Tamannaah Bhatia and Aju Varghese over a plea against online rummy. The trio is the brand ambassadors of the online rummy game.

Thrissur native Poly Varghese approached the High Court seeking a ban on online rummy.Online rummy games are largely found in various virtual platforms. Such games should be banned, noted the petitioner in the plea. The plea also pointed out that some states have already banned online rummy.

Kerala has identified playing rummy as an offence under the Kerala Gaming Act in 1960. But the government did not initiate further action to execute it. Online rummy is not added to this act. Hence, the court should take immediate action to ban online rummy legally, requested the petitioner.

The petitioner also pointed out that the brand ambassadors have played a major role to attract more people to this online game. Considering this argument, the court served notice to the cricketer and two film stars.

According to reports, the HC has also sought an explanation from the state government. The court will start detailed hearing in the case after receiving the government’s report.
