Kozhikode: The city cybercrime police here on Monday arrested a Nigerian youngster who allegedly duped a Nallalam native of Rs 20 lakh. The person arrested has been identified as Akuchie Ifeanyi Franklin.

The team of officials nabbed the person from Bengaluru. The incident happened on March 2022.

Nallalam native had put his Apple iPads for sale on OLX. Franklin and his aides contacted him to purchase the iPads. Later, they reportedly sent an American bank Wells Fargo's fake receipt to his e-mail, to show that payment has been made.

To make it more convincing, they also sent WhatsApp messages to his number by pretending themselves as RBI officials. They also convinced him to pay around Rs 20 lakh in the form of processing fee and account activation fee, so that money can be credited to his account. Further, the accused told him that he would return the money, once the formalities were over. But according to the complaint registered, there was no further action.
