Onions brought from Maharashtra; to be distributed via Horticorp for Rs 45 per kg
Thiruvananthapuram: The first load of onions reached from Maharashtra which is to be distributed via Horticorp. The state government decided to bring 200 tonnes of onions through Nafed after the price of onion reached almost Rs 100 in the market. 75 tones of onions will be brought in the first phase.
25 tonnes were brought on Friday. 10 tonnes of onions will be distributed in Northern Kerala and the remaining 15 tonnes in Southern Kerala, including Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram. The onions will be distributed for Rs 45 per kg.
Minister VS Sunil Kumar talked with the Central government and Nafed officials regarding this the other day. One kilo of onion reached up to Rs 120 due to the heavy rains in north Indian states, which caused largescale damage.
