One suffers injury during blast in Thrissur firecracker unit

Thrissur: A person suffered injury when a fire broke out near Kundannur near Wadakkanchery here on Monday.

The injured has been identified as Mani (55), a native of Chelakkara. The incident took place around 5 pm when a fire broke out inside the shed where the workers used to make firecrackers. According to reports, two blasts occurred and tremors were felt kilometres apart.

Reports noted that most of the workers were away from the unit. As a result, they were not harmed.

Police and fire and safety personnel rushed to the spot for the rescue operation. While Mani has been admitted to District Hospital, Thrissur. His condition is critical, said reports.

The region has many firecracker units and many families are engaged in its cracker manufacturing process.
