One more Maoist killed in Thunderbolt-Maoist encounter at Manjakkandi forests in Palakkad
Palakkad: One more Maoist was killed in an encounter between the police and Maoists that took place in the Manjakkandi forest on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Manivasakam, head of the Bhavani Dalam group. He had sustained injuries in the encounter with Thunderbolt personnel. After the death of Kuppu Devaraj, Manivasakam was the leader of the Dalam.
Inquest of the bodies of Maoists killed the other day has started. Earlier, three Maoists including a woman were killed in an encounter with Thunderbolt force on Monday morning. The deceased were identified as Karnataka native Sreemathi and Tamil Nadu natives A. S. Suresh and Karthi, as per reports.
There were reports that some of the Maoists had run into the forest following the encounter. The Thunderbolt personnel are searching for them.
In order to complete inquest of the bodies of the Maoists, a team of police, medical and forensic officials had set out to the Manjakkandi forests. A forensic official and a local resident who went to guide him had heard gunshots from the forest.
Meanwhile, the locals said that Maoists used to visit Manjakkandi area frequently and collected rice and other essential items from local residents. They often carried weapons, residents added. The locals also said that they have seen Karthi, who was killed in the encounter, in the area many times earlier.
