Thalassery: A police jeep assigned to provide security cover to Kerala Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer met with an accident in Moonam Mile on Saturday. The jeep overturned while attempting to make a turn and hit a man standing on the side of the road.
The incident happened at Chungam on Thalassery-Koothuparmab road at around 4 pm. Roopesh (35), an Eruvatty native who suffered injuries, was rushed to hospital for further treatment. Further, SI Suresh, who was inside the jeep, was injured on his leg. The accident happened when the speaker was returning from Chundangapoyil after attending a program.
After learning that speaker's convoy left Chundangapoyil, the police jeep hurried from Thalassery station but lost balance and overturned while trying to make a swift turn near Chungam. Roopesh, who was standing on the road beside his parked bike, was hit by the jeep. He was rushed to the hospital in one of the security vehicles of the speaker's convoy.
