Mumbai: The Southern Railways has decided to operate Onam special train from Mumbai and the interesting part is that it will reach Kerala only after Onam, leaving passengers baffled. Not just the timing, the train will only operate from Panvel to Mangaluru. When Central Railways wanted to know why Southern Railway is running Onam special after Onam, the reply was that somehow they have to operate it!

Thiruvonam is on September 8. Passengers need to board train on September 6 to reach Kerala to celebrate the occasion. However, the special train (06049) will start from Panvel only on September 10. The special train which starts its journey at 10:45 AM will reach Mangaluru Central only at 06:00 AM the next day.

Also, Southern Railway had a plan to operate the train from Kurla. But Central Railways informed that platform will not be vacant. Due to that the decision to operate train from Panvel was taken.

The rationale for the special train is to reduce the rush during Onam travel. But the present decision will have no effect on passengers who aspire to reach Kerala to have the Onam sadya (multi-course meal served on Onam festival).
