Officials involved in serious crimes, including rape accused CI Sunu, to be dismissed

Thiruvananthapuram: CI PR Sunu, who has been accused in several cases, including Thrikkakara gangrape case, would be dismissed from service. The draft order for the same has been approved by the law secretary and forwarded to the home department. The government is planning to dismiss all police officials involved in serious crimes.

As many as 60 officials are accused in serious criminal cases, including those under the POCSO Act. Chief Minister Pinarayi VIjayan had said in the Assembly that there were 828 police officials in the department who were accused in criminal cases.

For dismissing officers in the posts from CI and above, the home department should complete the proceedings and issue order. In the case of others, the decision is taken by the state police chief.

Preliminary proceedings have been initiated to dismiss officials involved in serious crimes, including rape, custodial death and POCSO cases.
