Thiruvananthapuram: Additional director generals of police K Padmakumar, IPS, and Sheikh Darvesh Saheb, IPS, have been promoted to the rank of DGP. As per the government order, Padmakumar has been appointed as the Chief of Prisons, while Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, who previously headed the Crime Branch, has been appointed as the Director General of the Fire Force.

The appointments of Padmakumar and Darvesh Sahib have led to the creation of ex-cadre posts equivalent to the rank of DGP.

The promotions were given in order to fill the vacancies created by retirements of B Sandhya, and S Ananthakrishnan.

Additionally, ADGPs Balram Kumar Upadhyay, who was serving in the administration department at the Police Headquarters, and H Venkatesh, who held the position of Jail Superintendent, have been appointed as the Chief of Crime Branch and Chief of the Armed Battalion, respectively.

Furthermore, the union government is currently considering a list of eight individuals as potential replacements for state police chief Anil Kant, who is set to retire in June.
