Kannur: The obsolete buses of KSRTC will be converted to AC sleeper dormitories under the Budget Tourism Cell. The buses will be altered to accommodate 16 persons in them. Facilities for the stay of 116 passengers have already been prepared in Munnar. Accommodation facilities for 50 persons are being set up near the KSRTC station at Sultan Bathery. Rs 100 will be charged for a night stay in the bus. Lavatory and washroom services will also be available in the station.

Budget Tourism Cell facilitates trips to the major tourist destinations of Kerala. It aims to rejuvenate the tourism sector along with increasing the revenue of KSRTC. Over a quarter lakh of passengers availed the tourist services in 700 trips of KSRTC from November 2021 to January 31, 2022. The trips were temporarily halted in February due to a surge in Covid cases in the state. However, with the reduction of Covid cases, KSRTC expects to deploy more tourist services soon.

KSRTC has already launched 88 tourist packages from 35 depots in the state. Two-day trips to Alappuzha and Munnar from Kannur depot will be rolled out next month. New packages to the tourist destinations of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam are also under consideration.

Services to the northern parts of Kerala from the southern districts will also be introduced soon and the accommodation facilities will be provided in the Kannur depot as a part of this. KSRTC will ensure pre-booking options for its tourist services in all districts.
