Nurse complaints of psychological torture, doctor transferred
Thiruvananthapuram: The Surgery department chief of Kottayam Medical college, Dr John S Kurian, has been transferred following complaints of psychologically torturing a nurse.
The decision was announced by the press note from the Health Minister’s office. The incident relates to the nurse placing a tray on the surgery table.
The transfer order was issued after the staff staged a protest in the medical college from Friday morning demanding legal action against the doctor.
According to the complaint filed by the nurse, the doctor psychologically tortured her alleging that she placed a tray on the body of patient who was on the surgery table. The incident occurred on Monday last.
The doctor tortured the nurse alleging that she placed the tray over the body of a patient who was on the surgery table. Following that, the doctor made the nurse lie down on the surgery table just like the patient and placed the tray over her legs. Though the nurse filed a complaint with the hospital administration, they did not take any action. When the matter came to the notice of Health Minister K K Shailaja, she immediately tasked the medical education director to conduct an inquiry into the incident. The decision to take action against the doctor was reached after a three-hour long meeting with officials and nurses.
