Chandigarh: The probe team got vital clues against the Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal from the statements of nuns at central headquarters of Missionaries of Jesus. The nuns said that there was unacceptable behaviour from the part of the bishop during the prayer named ‘Idayanodoppam oru divasam’.

The bishop had called them to his room for this prayer. The nuns also told the probe team that the prayer was stopped by the church when complaints were raised against it.

The statements of the nuns were recorded by the team led by Vaikkom DySP Subhash who is in charge of probing the nun abuse case. The statements reinforce the complaint filed by the nun who was allegedly abused by the Jalandhar bishop.

The investigation team recorded the statements of 6 nuns, including Mother General. 4 among them have given statements against the bishop.

The prayer titled ‘Idayanodoppam oru divasam’ (A day with shepherd) was executed by bishop Franco Mulakkal in 2014. The prayer was planned as a special program for the nuns in Missionaries of Jesus.

The program demanded that the nuns had to spend the daytime in the prayer session and each one of them had to meet him in person in the evening. The nuns said they had to go to his room even at midnight. They also said that they had to face bad experiences from the bishop.

4 priests had also given statements to the team. Their statements also supported that of the nuns. That prayer session was conducted once or twice. Several complaints were against the program and it was cancelled by the church.
