New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed Bishop Franco Mulakkal’s plea to remove him from the list of accused in the nun rape case. A bench led by Chief Justice S. A. Bobde directed the bishop to face trial.
Bishop Franco Mulakkal had approached the apex court alleging that the allegations against him were forged. The bishop’s advocate pointed out that the nun raised a rape allegation against his client as she had personal enmity towards him. The bishop’s advocate added that there were discrepancies in the nun’s statements.
However, the SC bench led by the Chief Justice said the court was not considering the merit of the case at this point.
Earlier, a trial court had cancelled the bail granted to Bishop Franco Mulakkal. As the apex court rejected his petition, the bishop will have to appear before the court and face trial in the case.
