Delhi: The Supreme Court backed the High Court order dismissing the case registered against nuns under Missionaries of Jesus for e-mailing photos of a nun, who filed a sexual assault complaint against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, to journalists. The appeal submitted by the state government was rejected by the bench consisting of Justice Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravikumar. However, the SC noted its disagreements against certain findings in the HC order. The apex court informed that a detailed order elaborating on this will be passed soon.

The photos and details of the nun who raised a complaint against the bishop were mailed to three journalists by sister Amala and Annie Rose. However, the name of the complainant was not included in the e-mail. The standing counsel of the state government CK Sasi said that revealing the details of a complainant in a rape case is punishable under Section 228-A of the Indian Penal Code.

Justice Ajay Rastogi declared that this chapter is closed as the case has been dismissed.
