Number of pilgrims allowed in Sabarimala to be increased
Thiruvananthapuram: The number of pilgrims allowed in Sabarimala temple daily will be increased. It has been decided in a meeting chaired by the chief secretary to increase the number of devotees step by step after considering COVID conditions. The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) had urged the government to increase the number of devotees.
Presently, 1000 pilgrims per day are allowed on days between Monday and Friday and 2000 per day during weekend days. The Devaswom Board had requested to allow at least 10,000 people to enter the temple per day. The government will soon decide the limit of devotees allowed in the temple during the first phase of pilgrimage which ends on December 15.
Then increasing this limit will be considered analyzing the situation after December 15.
However, the health department has opposed allowing more number of pilgrims in the temple.
DGP Loknath Behera, secretaries of various departments, Devaswom Board president N Vasu and Commissioner B S Thirumeni also attended the meeting.
