Number of COVID tests to be increased to 50,000 per day; more staff to be appointed in health sector
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the number of COVID-19 tests performed in the state will be increased to 50,000 per day. Sufficient number of staff will be appointed in the health sector within 100 days. After the COVID outbreak, 9768 health workers were appointed so far through National Health Mission, the CM made it clear.
The pubic health system of the state will be improved. The government has already attained huge improvement in developing basic amenities and human resource. 1200 house surgeons and 1152 ad hoc employees were appointed. More staff will be deployed within 100 days, if necessary. The functioning of first-line treatment centres will be improved, the CM informed.
The government intends to turn primary health centres into family health centres with all facilities of a hospital. So far 386 family health centres were completed and 153 centres will be opened in the coming days. OP will function in morning and evening in these centres, he added.
Construction of 24 new buildings as part of medical colleges, district and taluk hospitals will be completed. 10 new dialysis centres, 9 scanning centres, 3 cath labs and two modern cancer treatment centres will be opened in 100 days, the chief minister said.
