Kochi: The central government is firm on its stand that NRI cannot be brought back from foreign countries immediately. The Centre repeated its stance at Kerala High Court while it was considering various pleas requesting to bring back NRIs.
Earlier, the High Court had sought a report from the Centre regarding the matter of taking expats home. Following this, the Centre made its stand clear. With this, the High Court asked the central government to explain the actions taken in each country in connection with the issue.
Meanwhile, the High Court also stated that if the expats are brought back in this situation, they cannot be quarantined at their houses. The HC asked the state government what precautions have been taken to receive the NRIs. The pleas will be considered again on April 24.
The Supreme Court also had said that it cannot intervene in the matter of repatriation of NRIs. While considering a petition in connection with the issue, the Supreme Court said that the matter should be handled as per the guidelines issued by the Centre.
