Kochi: Minister KT Jaleel, who was interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate yesterday, said that he doesn’t believe there is anything wrong in distributing religious texts. He also said that he is ready to send back the religious texts provided by UAE consulate.
Jaleel also repeated that his meeting with Swapna Suresh, one of the accused in the Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case, was fully official.
According to reports, ED questioned the minister on parcel of religious texts from UAE consulate, his relationship with UAE consulate officials and his assets.
He responded to ED that he did nothing wrong and has the details of the people to whom the religious texts were distributed. If needed, this can be retrieved, he added.
Responding on his assets, Jaleel told ED that he is not rich and owns only 19.5 cents of land. He has a debit of Rs 1.5 lakh while Rs 3.5 lakh is available in treasury. Jaleel also said that he doesn’t own any vehicle or gold.
The minister also confirmed to ED that his relationship with UAE consulate employees including Swapna Suresh was purely official and never used these relationships for personal use. There is nothing unusual in the relationship with consulate General. Jaleel also said that he was unaware of protocol violations.
However, ED officials evaluated that there is discrepancy in Jaleel’s statement and the minister is likely to be questioned again.
