Noted advocate M Ashokan passes away at 73

Kozhikode: Advocate M Ashokan, who became noted for arguing criminal cases and labour disputes, passed away on Tuesday. He was 73. He has appeared as the special public prosecutor and defendent’s counsel in various courts, including high courts, in and out of Kerala.

Ashokan had appeared for the main accused in cases such as TP Chandrasekharan murder, Attappadi Madhu murder, Nadapuram POCSO case and Shaheed Bava murder case, Kerala’s first moral policing murder, among others.

He served as the president of Calicut BAR association in 2010. He was the legal advisor to various government, semi-government, private institutions and companies. He also served as a member of the governing body of Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College, Calicut.

Ashokan is survived by wife Sarala Ashokan, daughter Dr Vidhu Ashokan, son-in-law Dr Rajesh R Pillai and brothers. The funeral will be held at 12 pm on Wednesday.
