Thiruvananthapuram: The north gate of Kerala Secretariat, which was closed using barricades three years back, is all set to be opened on Wednesday. Although the gate was shut for renovation, it continued to remain closed on account of the pandemic.

In addition, the opening was delayed further considering regular protests staged by the opposition against the government. The north gate facilitates quick access to the chief minister’s office.

Currently, officials, including the chief minister, enter the secretariat through the cantonment gate. However, public entry is restricted through this gate. Even after the gate opens, it will be closed using barricades during times of protests.
