Kochi: Opposition leader VD Satheesh demanded resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the wake of the latest statements made by Swapna Suresh in the gold smuggling case. He demanded the central agencies to investigate the role of the chief minister in the case.
Satheesan mocked Pinarayi Vijayan by reminding him of his Facebook post during the term of the UDF ministry, demanding the resignation of then CM Oommen Chandy in the 2013 solar scam.
He also demanded an answer on why central agencies failed to investigate her initial allegations against Pinarayi Vijayan. "Back then, CPM and BJP colluded to undermine the investigation. Soon after her revelations, a non-bailable charge was imposed on the BJP state president in the Manjeswaram election case. The BJP and the CPM will reach a compromise in these cases," he added.
Meanwhile, Satheesan also demanded an inquiry to determine the authenticity of the audio clips. UDF does not trust any national investigation agencies and therefore requests a probe under the supervision of the High Court, he said. He also ridiculed the 12-member special investigation team formed to investigate the conspiracy behind the statement given by Swapna. "Why is the state government not approaching the court over the confidential statement given by Swapna? If her statement is found wrong, she will have to serve seven years in prison. However, the state government is refusing to take any of that measures," he added.
