No police protection, women should bring court order to trek Sabarimala: Devaswom minister
Thiruvananthapuram: Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran said that no protection will be provided for women who want to trek Sabarimala. Women will not be taken to Sabarimala under police protection. If they want to go there, they should bring court order in this regard, he made it clear.
Even the law experts are of different opinion regarding the Supreme Court verdict. One group claims that the earlier verdict has been invalidated after the Supreme Court referred the review petitions regarding women entry in Sabarimala, to a larger bench, while others argue that it exists. The apex court should clarify the verdict. It will be decided later that who should seek clarification, he added.
Sabarimala is not a platform for the activists. Activists like Trupti Desai should not see Sabarimala as a place to show off their power. Troubles occur when people conduct press meets and announce that they are visiting Sabarimala. They are not devotees. They only seek publicity, the minister stated.
He also requested the media not to ask for the statements of people who support or oppose the verdict and thereby damage the peaceful atmosphere during the pilgrimage season.
