No plastic from New Year; Ambalappuzha Palpayasam to be served in paper containers
Alappuzha: In a bid to avoid use of plastic, Ambalappuzha Palpayasam (milk dessert offered in temple) will be distributed in eco-friendly paper containers. For many years, Ambalappuzha Palpayasam have been served in plastic containers. Now this has been replaced with paper containers with aluminium coating inside.
The action was taken as part of eliminating use of plastic in temples under Travancore Devaswom Board. The name and address of the Devaswom Board and the temple and pictures of the temple and the idol have been printed outside the new container. Seal of the board is printed on the lid of the container.
Palpayasam is filled in the container in 60-degree temperature and the lid is fixed by a machine. It is distributed to devotees by 12.30 noon. Palpayasam does not go stale for upto 12 hours.
The new containers were started using from New Year day. Distribution was inaugurated by Devaswom Deputy Commissioner G Baiju by handing over it to Ambalappuzha Thekku gram panchayat president G Venulal.
