Kozhikode: QR code scanners were installed in Kozhikode railway station to avail unreserved tickets from the railway station. The QR code operates using the UTS mobile app. The scanners were installed at 61 stations under Palakkad division as of now.
Though the QR code scanners were set up in Kozhikode railway station on September 25, passengers still stand in long queues in front of counters as they are not acquainted with the new facility.
Railways had introduced the UTS app to book unreserved tickets for passengers. However, passengers could not book tickets using the UTS app within 15 metres perimeter of the railway line. Now, users can book tickets by just uploading the destination using the QR code scanner stamped on the walls of the railway station.
Several passengers travel without taking tickets in the unreserved coaches due to long queues to purchase tickets. Railways attempt to curb this by introducing the QR code scanners.
