Alappuzha: Health Minister Veena George said there is no need to panic about the marginal rise in Covid-19 cases in the state. Her remark came while inaugurating an event organised by Medical Laboratory Owners Association.

"No new variants of Covid-19 was detected so far. Though there is a chance for new variants to be formed, there is no need to panic. We are closely monitoring the situation," she said.

She pointed out that recent weather anomalies are leading to the formation of new viruses and diseases. Therefore, the testing devices in medical labs should bring out quality results. Therefore, all establishments need to be accredited and recognised, she added.

"It was noticed that testing result often varies from one lab to another. This should not happen," she said.

She said that the state would consider providing recognition to private labs in future.
