Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday said that no one has to be afraid of any leader in the party. The former opposition leader said every leader has the freedom to operate across the state, but it should be through the party framework. Chennithala was reacting to the controversies within Congress relating to party MP Shashi Tharoor’s Kerala tour.
Chennithala said the current priority was to fight the "anti-people stands" taken by the state and union governments. He dismissed news reports that he was the reason for the current controversy in the party. The Congress leader said strengthening the unity of the party was the need of the hour.
He also said that VD Satheesan’s “balloon” remark was not against Tharoor. “What Satheesan said was that leaders were not just inflated balloons,” Chennithala said.

When asked about the exclusion of VD Satheesan from the poster of the Youth Congress event in which Tharoor is a part, Chennithala said "I was also not included in it." The former opposition leader added that no one is above the party.
