No mother by her side this time, but Devika scores A grade yet again
Kanhangad: Devika R Menon was always accompanied by her mother when she came to participate in School Youth Festivals. It was her mother, who was also a teacher, that identified the artistic spark in her. But this time, when Devika came to the festival to take part in monoact competition, she is not accompanied by her mother. Devika’s mother is in rest after the chemotherapy treatment caused by an unexpected cancer.
Even in her mother’s absence, Devika has secured A grade by presenting Shahla Sherin’s story in the competition. It was only last week that Shahla Sherin died following a snake bite from classroom and due to lack of immediate medical attention.
Devika is a class 10 student of Thrissur Sree Sarada Girls Higher Secondary School. She secured A grade in monoact in last year’s festival as well.
Devika had to appeal against her position in the sub-district competition where she was placed third. After the appeal, she came first and secured qualification for the state level competition. Devika came with her father, who is a teacher at Thrissur Sree Ramakrishna Boys School.
