Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has rejected the chief secretary’s proposal of giving government employees a holiday on the fourth Saturday of every month.

The suggestion to give government employees a holiday on the fourth Saturday was made at the secretary-level meeting. The proposal was to give Saturday as a holiday by adjusting the operational hours of the other five working days. The matter was deliberated with employee unions.

All unions except the pro-CPM Kerala NGO Union and the Kerala Secretariat Employees Association agreed with the decision. The final decision on the matter was left to the CM.
