No difference of opinion in Congress or UDF in opposing CAA: Ramesh Chennithala
Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said there is no difference of opinion in Congress or UDF in opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
“I have spoken to KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran, former chief minister Oommen Chandy and other senior leaders in this regard. The UDF has decided to go ahead with its plans. There is no confusion in this regard in neither the Congress nor the UDF. Our aim is to strengthen the protests against CAA across the country,” Ramesh Chennithala said.
He alleged that there were efforts to create confusion by creating an appearance that there is difference of opinion in Congress regarding CAA.
Ramesh Chennithala also gave clarification regarding omitting Governor Arif Mohammad Khan from K. Karunakaran commemoration ceremony. He admitted that the Governor was invited. “But there was a strong sentiment among Congress activists that the Governor should not attend the function. Hence, we omitted him,” Chennithala explained.
“The Governor is not a political activist. As the head of state, he must perform his constitutional duties. He may have his personal opinion. But he should respect the position he holds before making such opinions public,” Ramesh Chennithala said.
