No-confidence motion: Jose K Mani faction to take an independent stand; Joseph terms it illegal
Kottayam: Kerala Congress leader Jose K Mani repeated that his faction will take an independent stand in the discussion related to the no-confidence motion against the government. He asserted that his faction will refrain from voting on the no-confidence motion and also in Rajya Sabha polls.
“We will not accept the whip issued from P J Joseph faction. Roshy Augustine holds the right to issue whip to party MLAs. UDF ousted us from the front. So, they can not take any action against us,” responded Jose K Mani.
Meanwhile, Kerala Congress leader PJ Joseph condemned Jose K Mani’s stand and termed it as illegal. Joseph pointed out that Mons Joseph holds the right to issue the whip.
“Whip was issued to two MLAs in Joseph faction directing to take part in the no-confidence motion and cast vote to UDF candidate in Rajya Sabha election. All 5 MLAs in Kerala Congress obliged to follow the whip. If they refuse, strict action will be taken against them,” he added.
He noted that MLAs in Jose K Mani faction would not be able to take an independent stand. If they are not accepting the whip, they will lose their membership in the assembly, noted PJ Joseph.
He added that he will seek the speaker’s attention to take action against these MLAs under the anti-defection law.
