Muthalamada Panchayat

Palakkad: The CPM lost power in Muthalamada panchayat in Palakkad as a no-confidence motion moved by Independent members got passed with the support of rivals BJP and Congress.

11 members backed the no-confidence motion, while eight members objected to it. In the panchayat CPM had nine members, Congress six, BJP three and there are two Independent. However, the resignation of a CPM member turned problematic for the party.

Interestingly, BJP members casted voted despite the direction from district leadership to stay away.
