No cancellation of trains or stops, says Railways
Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Railways informed that rumours on cancelling train services and stops which are less profitable are baseless. The current time table is being scientifically modified. The train routes are being reorganized with the help of IIT Mumbai.
There are many shortcomings in the current train timetable. The arrival and departure of trains during late hours cause inconvenience to passengers. This will end with the modification of the unscientific timetable. After the new timetable comes into force, trains will be more passenger-friendly.
Railway Board chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav said that a final decision regarding cancellation of trains and stops has not been taken. New train timetable will come into force as the COVID transmission decreases. Clone trains also are under consideration on routes where there is heavy rush, he added.
Southern Railway manager John Thomas said that Rs 250 crore will be requested from the Railway Board to complete Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari track doubling and construction of Nemom-Kochuveli terminal. A detailed project report for Ambalappuzha-Ernakulam track doubling will be prepared shortly, so that land acquisition can be hastened, he said.
