Kozhikode: Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that the person who tested positive for Nipah virus on Friday had direct contact with the man, who succumbed to the infection on August 30. The 39-year-old man is a native of Cheruvannur and contracted the virus from a private hospital from where the deceased person had sought treatment. His route map is being prepared and the number of people in the contact list is likely to go up further, she said.
Veena George made the remarks while addressing the media here on Friday after the Nipah review meeting. She was accompanied by Ministers PA Mohamed Riyas, Ahamed Devarkovil and AK Saseendran. The minister added that the number of Nipah tests will be increased and the tests will be carried out in Kozhikode itself.
“Mobile locations will be used for preparing contact lists. Nipah preventive measures will be carried out under the leadership of the district collector, as per the Kerala Epidemic Act, 2021. Even if the tests turn out to be negative, isolation is mandatory for 21 days. Following this, tests will be conducted once again,” George said.
Meanwhile, Minister AK Saseendran said that Dr Arun Zachariah, Chief Veterinary Surgeon of the Forest Department, has been tasked to investigate the deaths of wild boars in Janakikadu.
