Malappuram: Four out of nine accused in the kidnap and murder of a traditional medical practitioner in Nilambur here confessed to the crime, police said. Five more are yet to be arrested. They helped Shaibin, the accused, kidnap Shaba Sherif, district police chief S Sujith Das said.

Sherif (60) was kidnapped in August 2019 for his 'secret medicine' for haemorrhoids. The medic was running a ‘clinic’ in Mysuru. Shaibin asked Sherif to visit a patient in a lodge and kidnapped him en route.

He was then brought to Shaibin’s house in Nilambur and tortured for a year. They chopped him into pieces when he died of continuous physical attack and dumped the parts in the Chaliyar river.

The incident came to light when his friends looted Shaibin after he failed to keep up the offer of money as compensation for participating in the crime. Shaibin then went to the police against the theft. His friends told police that they fear for their lives and Shaibin had forced them to murder a man (Sherif).
