NIA to probe into gold smuggling case; Home ministry gives nod
New Delhi: The Centre has decided to appoint the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate into the gold smuggling case in Thiruvananthapuram. The Ministry of Home Affairs has granted permission for the probe.
The decision in this regard was taken after the national invetigation agencies looked into the case. The Centre granted permission for the probe by NIA as the issue is related to the national security.
The NIA will investigate to find out the master brain behind the gold smuggling, the source of the smuggled gold and the person for whom the gold was brought.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had forwarded a letter to the prime minister the other day requesting the Centre's intervention in the investigation of the gold smuggling case. He had also demanded probe by a central agency.
