Kochi: The National investigation Agency has sought legal advice to book M Sivasankar, former Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and now arrested by Customs in the gold smuggling case, under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Sivasankar who was interrogated by Customs and Enforcement Directorate will be presented in court on Monday. Customs is expected to seek his custody extension.
After the UAPA was amended, smuggling activities were brought under it. Based on this, NIA had booked 4 other accused in gold smuggling case under the Act.
NIA has been investigating whether the smuggled gold or the money collected through smuggling was used for anti-national activities directly or handed over to such forces. The trial court had asked NIA on the evidences collected in this regard repeatedly in various phases of the probe.
