Perinthalmanna: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has allocated Rs 156 crores to acquire land in Kozhikode for the much awaited Palakkad-Kozhikode Greenfield Highway.

The fund is deposited in the joint account of the land acquisition deputy collector and Project Director. Priority would be given to families who will lose their homes as part of the land acquisition.

Earlier, a state-level monitoring committee had found that land plots were acquired at a higher market price in the district. Following this, a panel constituted by the monitoring body reevaluated the value of the acquired land and submitted a report to NHAI.

Around 29.7659 hectares of land are needed to acquire 6.6 kilometres of road in Kozhikode district alone. At the same time, around Rs 600 crore is needed in total for land acquisition in Kozhikode district. Land acquisition deputy collector PS Lal Chand said they would receive the remaining amount to be paid as compensation.
