Kochi: The High Court pronounced a verdict in favour of Mathrubhumi over a case filed by an individual for publishing a news report.

The verdict was pronounced in a petition filed by Mathrubhumi requesting to quash the criminal case filed in Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.

Justice Alexander Thomas said while giving the verdict that news reports on cases investigated by the police was part of journalism and it was the responsibility of the media to publish the same.

The case against Mathrubhumi was filed by Aluva Kuttamassery native Rajeevan. Senior lawyer B Raman Pillai appeared for Mathrubhumi in the court.

Mathrubhumi published a report stating that Aluva police had registered a case against Rajeevan on the basis of a complaint filed by a woman for taking her picture at the bus stop.
