Shoranur: The Thiruvananthapuram- Secunderabad Sabari express will no longer stop at Shoranur as the railway board issued a new order. This route change will come into effect from January 1 onwards.
This move will pose challenges to travellers in the Malabar region. Until now, Sabari express used to come to Shoranur station before turning towards Thiruvananthapuram. Instead of the stop at Shoranur after Thrissur, a halt at Vadakkencherry has been added. After Wadakancherry, the next stop is at Ottapalam.
Many people going to Kozhikode, Kannur and Malappuram districts were dependent on this train. After alighting at Shoranur, they would make use of other trains to access the Malabar region. This system is now in jeopardy.
Passengers alighting at Vadakkencherry will need to rely on other trains and buses to reach Shoranur and then continue their journey from there. This will be even more difficult for long-distance travellers.
The National convener of Confederation of All India Rail Users Association, Sunshine Shoranur along with passengers representative, Swajith Kumar have submitted a petition to the railway authorities. MP V.K Sreekandan said that this issue will be brought to the notice of the railway minister.
