Thiruvananthapuram: The New Year celebration in the state witnessed the death of six people in multiple accidents across various districts on Sunday.
Three people died in two road accidents in Pathanamthitta. Accidents took place in Thiruvalla and Enathu. Both accidents happened around midnight on Sunday. Two people died when a tanker lorry rammed a bike in Thiruvalla. The deceased have been identified as Shyam and Arun Kumar. The accident occurred near the railway station in Thiruvalla on Sunday past midnight. The second accident happened near Enathu Police Station. Thulaseedharan, an Elamangalam native, died after his two-wheeler lost control and hit a post.
In Alappuzha, two youngsters lost their lives after a police jeep rammed a scooter. In Idukki, a college student from Malappuram died after a tourist bus plunged into a gorge. Meanwhile, the death of two youth, Justin and Alex from Kottayam, resulted when a police jeep rammed their vehicle. The jeep went out of control after hitting the scooter and rammed the border wall of a house nearby. According to the police, only the driver was in the jeep. The accident happened around 3:30 am on Sunday. The youth who died were returning to Kottayam after celebrating New Year.
In Idukki, Minhaj, a Malappuram native, died after the tourist bus carrying a college student plunged into a gorge in Idukki on the wee hours of Sunday. Though everyone was rescued, Minhaj was admitted to Kottayam Medical College with serious injuries. However, he died later.
