New software for Midday Meal Scheme; Teachers to be relieved of workload
Kottayam: A new software will be introduced for managing the Midday Meal Scheme in the schools in Kerala. The software that helps to easily record the income and expense related to the midday meals will be implemented by November.
The central and state governments grant 60 and 40 percent of the fund respectively for the Midday Meal Scheme. Presently, the teachers find it hard to manually record the income and expense of midday meals and the quantity of meal provided to the children every day. The new software was designed in this context to reduce their workload.
When the software is installed, only the attendance of the students need to be entered. As per this information, the expenditure and quantity of food supplied to each student will be automatically recorded in the system.
The details recorded in this way will be available in the state level Midday Meal Monitoring System of the Department of Education and the Union Ministry for Human Resource. Also there are attempts to extend the School Breakfast scheme which was launched last year to more number of schools this year.
The scheme is implemented with the help of local bodies and individuals. The breakfast scheme was implemented in 2000 schools last year and will be extended to 4000 more schools by March 31.
