Thiruvananthapuram: As the monsoon has arrived with an array of epidemics to scare the public, Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Community Medicine Department introduced ‘Gravid Adult Mosquito Trap’ as part of the research jointly conducted by the Kerala government and the World Health Organisation.
Health minister K. K. Shailaja shared the news of the new mosquito trap through her Facebook page. Flowerpot, kitchen bin, net and adhesive sheets are the materials required for making the mosquito trap. A solution made from hay is used to attract the mosquitoes to the trap which can trap upto 200 mosquitoes.
The trap can be used at places where large number of mosquitoes are found. The minister noted in the Facebook post that the trap has received positive response from where it was installed.
It is necessary to reduce the number of deaths due to epidemics in monsoon. The DMOs are directed to take strict action in case any epidemics are reported in the state, the minister added.
