Thiruvananthapuram: The new prices of Milma milk will come into force from Thursday. The decision was taken by the administrative committee meeting on Monday. The price has been increased by Rs 4 per litre for all milk packets except yellow colored packet which was increased by Rs 5 per litre.
Milma chairman P A Balan said that until printed packets with new prices are available, milk will be distributed in old packets.
Milk societies would get 16 paisa from the increased price, 3 paisa would go to farmers' welfare fund and 10 paisa to regional unions. Agent commission will be 32 paisa more per litre. Also 1 paisa will be set aside for plastic recycling and processing and 10 paisa for fodder price regulation.
The quality of milk distributed would be ensured. For this, state referral laboratory worth Rs 8 crore under the national project for dairy development scheme would be set up in Edappally dairy of Ernakulam regional union. Also milk scanners worth Rs 85 lakh would be installed in 11 dairies.
It was in 2017, the milk price was previously increased. Following this, a committee was appointed to scientifically study the price hike. The price hike was attributed to increased cost of fodder and livestock feed.
