Thiruvananthapuram: In response to the notice calling for attention into the bifurcation of Malappuram district, the state government stated that formation of a new district is not practical.
Instead of strengthening the decentralisation of power and improving the administrative facilities, the demand for a new district is unscientific, minister E. P. Jayarajan said. He was responding to the notice by K.N.A. Khader calling for attention demanding bifurcation of Malappuram district.
The minister further asked about the Muslim League’s intention behind raising this issue now which they did not think when they were in power. He made it clear that the government is trying to strengthen the decentralisation of power and it disagrees with forming a new district.
K.N.A. Khader demanded that Malappuram district should be bifurcated based on the population. He further said that there is no development in the district in accordance to its huge population and a new district should be formed for facilitating administration.
