New depression to be formed, heavy rain to continue, red alert in 7 districts
Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain alert has been issued in Kerala. Red alert will continue in Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts on Saturday. An orange alert has been sounded in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kasaragod districts.
Orange alert has been issued in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Sunday. The ongoing heavy rain in flood affected areas is likely to cause landslides and intensify waterlogging.
The meteorological department has warned that low pressure is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal by Monday. As a result of this, heavy rain is likely to occur till August 15. Rain is likely to intensify in Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad districts by August 13. Orange alert is issued in these places on this day.
The met department has not predicted the intensity and nature of the depression which will be formed soon. The fishermen are warned not to venture into the sea till August 11 as gusty wind at a speed of 40-50 kmph is likely to occur. The waves are likely to rise to a height of 3.2 to 3.7 metres.
