Netravati Express comes to a halt at Tirur as passenger smokes cigarette
Tirur: One of the biggest advantages of modern trains are their capability to foresee a problem even before it culminates into a real threat. Such a smoke and fire detection facility installed in Netravathi Express did its job on Friday in identifying smoke inside one of the coaches, and subsequently, the train was brought to a sudden halt in Tirur.
Authorities conducted a detailed inspection but found no fire or smoke anywhere. Later, it was revealed that a passenger smoked inside an AC coach and detectors built into the LHB coaches identified it as a potential fire and stopped the train.
Similar arrangements are being made at railway stations. Detectors are already operational at major railway stations across the country.
