Alappuzha: Krishna Bahadur Garthi, a 9-year-old boy from Nepal has started to learn Malayalam after joining 4th standard. Though he got some issues with his Malayalam pronunciation, he can recite the Malayalam poems in the textbook.

Though Krishna was born to a Nepali couple in Keezhmad here, he moved to Nepal along with his mother. Later, his father reached Panavalli here for a job.

A few days before the lockdown, Krishna and his mother reached Panavalli to meet his father. As the lockdown extended, they were unable to return to Nepal. Hence, Krishna's parents decided to get an admission for him at Odampally Govt. UP school.

The school authority including headmaster Vijayakumar and other teachers were glad to welcome him to the school. After giving admission for Krishna in 4th standard, the teachers are trying to teach Malayalam to this Nepali boy.

He is being trained to have the necessary communication skills in Malayalam to adjust with the lifestyle in Kerala. During the lockdown, the teachers visited Krishna at his residence to continue the classes.

When the area of his residence was declared a containment zone, his classes also switched to online learning.

The teachers are conducting Malayalam classes in a unique way to make it more interesting for the boy. Even puppet shows are also staged to ease his Malayalam learning.

Krishna Bahadur is continuing his Malayalam classes by learning stories, poems, songs and puppet shows as per the COVID-19 protocol.

During the initial phase of classes, Krishna was trained to speak in Malayalam. At present, he is studying to write alphabets and words.

Like the Nepali Boy Rimpoche aka Unnikuttan in Mohanlal starrer 'Yodha', Krishna Bahadur has become a pet of everyone in Odampally.

Malayalam teacher Sari R Saseendra and Hindi teacher Mayadevi are taking classes for him.
