Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker of the Kerala Assembly MB Rajesh dismissed media reports of issuing a warning to health minister Veena George.
Rajesh said that the words used in reports, especially ‘thakeeth and shasana’ (warning and rebuke) are misleading. These reports blame Veena George for not taking up responsibility which is not under her purview, he said.
The speaker also explained the context of his remarks.
Congress legislator MP Anilkumar in a complaint against Veena had contended that her replies to sub-questions of a starred question were similar, which is a violation of the rules.
According to Rajesh, he had sought a response from Veena over the matter. Veena said that information available to the government was provided and the answers were clubbed together as the questions were related. She made it clear that she had no intention to duck the question.
Rajesh in a letter to Anilkumar said that answering the sub-questions together is not a proper approach. The letter included that the minister through an order has been intimated that such an approach should be avoided.
Also, later it came to light that answering the sub-questions together may cause technical issues to the portal in which the answers and questions are updated. The procedures to resolve the technical issues have been initiated, Rajesh added.
“These are just general procedures and there is nothing unusual. The words used in the media reports like ‘warning and rebuke’ were not in the letter given. This explanation is in wake of the media reports that blames the minister for responsibility that is not under her purview,” he said.
