Nehru Trophy boat race: Clubs begin preparation
Alappuzha: The flood has destroyed the hearts of boat race lovers and boat clubs. The deluge came washing away all their dreams after many days of preparation and practices. Three months are over since then. Now the race is again coming up on November 10.
Each club in the Nehru Trophy boat race prepares itself spending lakhs of rupees. Many borrow big amounts for practice and preparations. The clubs and rowers were disappointed when the race was temporarily cancelled.
The clubs were aiming at the league matches. But this year, there are no league competitions. However, the clubs are happy about the Nehru Trophy race.
Now the clubs have to begin from scratch. There is no sufficient finance to conduct long practice sessions. They have to earn maximum strength with limited days of practice.
The race will be conducted with minimum expense and without the usual grandeur. All boats registered for the race will participate. There will not be any change for the order of competitions, track and heats. A meeting of captains will be held prior to the competition.
With the water festival, the people of Kuttanad also will rev up their spirits from the distress of flood.
