Kollam: Police arrested two teachers in connection with the incident in which a student was asked to remove her innerwear before appearing for NEET exam at a centre here. Dr Shamnad and Dr Praji Kurian Issac, who were in charge of the examination at Ayoor Mar Thoma College, were arrested by the police on Wednesday midnight.

Earlier, Chadayamangalam police arrested five people over the incident. In a statement to the police, they claimed that they carried out the frisking as per the direction of NTA observers Shamnad and Praji Kurian Issac.

Following this, police sought details from the NEET Kollam district coordinator and summoned the two teachers to the police station. Their arrest was recorded after a detailed interrogation. Dr Shamnad is an NTA observer deployed from another college. Dr Praji Kurian Issac is a lecturer at Ayoor Engineering College.

Plus Two students also engaged in frisking

Inexperienced staff were deployed for frisking of NEET candidates at Ayoor Mar Thoma College. It is learnt that a Plus Two student was also among the people who were on frisking duty.

The agency based in Karunagappally arranged the staff with the help of a bakery owner at Pavoor in Manjappara. The bakery owner had sent four women, including his daughter and his staff of the bakery, to the NEET centre.

It is revealed that the agency deployed inexperienced women for the duty without giving proper directions. Only a video explaining the frisking procedure was forwarded to the women. The women had carried out the frisking as featured in the video, say reports.

Mar Thoma College authority claimed that the deployment of inexperienced staff triggered the controversy.
